Using LynqAttention

Reading the Attention view

Pageviews rank pages by how often they were opened. That is rarely the question you have. The Attention view on the Pages screen ranks them by how much of your visitors’ time they hold, and says whether people read them and whether they help.

The pool

The view opens with the whole thing: 74 hours of attention in the last 30 days, split across the pages that hold it, and one sentence naming the leader. Attention is finite, and every page is competing for it, so it is worth seeing the total before the ranking.

A typical result: a documentation page with a third of the home page’s traffic holds twice its time.

The columns

ColumnWhat it says
Sharethe page’s portion of the site’s attention
Timethat share as hours and minutes
Read-throughhow often people got to the bottom and stayed
Influencehow much more often sessions that saw it reached your KPI goal

The exact definitions, including the thresholds, are on how Lynq counts.

How to use it

  • Attention against pageviews. A page high on pageviews and low on attention is a page people land on and leave. That is fine for a login screen and a problem for a landing page.
  • Read-through on long pages. Under 20% on an article means the opening is not carrying people. Read-through is naturally low on short application screens, where there is nothing to scroll.
  • Influence against attention. These disagree more often than you would expect, and the disagreement is the finding. A documentation page can hold the most time and convert the least, while a pricing page holds a fraction of the time and leads on influence.

What it will not tell you

Influence is association, not cause. A page that appears on the way to a signup is not necessarily the reason for it, and a page nobody sees before converting will always look weak. Treat a high number as a question worth asking rather than an answer.

A dash means Lynq is refusing to guess: too few pageviews for read-through, or too few sessions on one side of the influence comparison.
